Day 14 & 15: Going the Distance!

:D I decided to try and press myself a little farther, and I'm proud of my results! On Tuesday I ran 2.5 miles, and I ran 2.5 today as well! My knees are kind of sore from all the impact, and I'm still having to slow way down by the end of my run...but I'm definitely making progress!

I think the new medication I'm on is helping me a lot, too. I definitely feel way more energetic than I've been feeling lately! I'm feeling so much better about myself than I was at the beginning of the month :)

Day 12 & 13: Running and Not

I'm doing such a bad job at writing every day! That's frustrating for me. I need to get on top of my game again.

So yesterday I ran just a mile--not awesome, but at least I got up and did something! It's good to be active :)

Today I just did some walking and played with the puppy. Not any real runs, but I'll start on my 9 mile goal for this week tomorrow! I'm gonna aim for running at least 2 miles and walking whatever I don't run, to reach 3 miles. I'm going to try and get that done in under 45 minutes, which is a super easily achievable goal, but still a goal! I want to eventually get to 36 minutes for 3 miles, but for now I'm gonna maintain a 12 minute mile for two miles, and then see how fast I can go for the remainder. Hopefully I get it all done in about 40 minutes :) I'll keep you guys posted!

Day 11: Meeting the Goal

Guys,  I made it to 6 miles this week! I ran two and a half miles today (or technically yesterday, since it is just after midnight now), so I ran actually OVER 6 miles this week :D And if I run again tomorrow, I'll make it up to 9 miles!

I'm proud of myself for reaching that goal. I think next week I'm going to make my goal 9 miles--that's even tougher than 6, but I believe in myself! I can totally manage nine miles next week. Run Corinne, run!

Day 10: New Info

Today I went to the doctor. I've been a little frustrated since I started working out in January because my body hasn't been reflecting my hard work--I've actually gained weight, and I'm not slimming down at all. I was going in for a fatigue issue I've been fighting, but it turns out my thyroid isn't producing the hormones I need to lose weight and have energy! This makes me really happy, because it's a treatable condition which should allow my body to reflect all my hard work :)

I didn't get a run in, unfortunately, but I did do sit ups, push ups, leg lifts, squats, and lunges! I feel happy that my body will soon start SHOWING the work I'm putting into it :)

Day 8 & 9: A Day Away!

Yesterday I didn't post a blog because I was away from home :) I had a job interview and then spent the night with my best friend! It was a lot of fun, and I think my interview went well! However, except for a little bit of walking around while we were running errands, I didn't make any progress today or yesterday :(

However, I still have tomorrow, Saturday, and Sunday! So I think I'm still right on track for my goal of 6 miles this week :) I'm planning on doing 2.5 miles tomorrow--I'll let you know how it goes!

Day 7: Oops, I did it again!

Yeah I wasn't planning on running today....but it happened anyway! Got in a cool two miles with the puppy, and I don't feel even close to as wiped out as I was last week! I am a little stiff, but I think the joint supplements I've been taking have really helped :D

I'm pretty excited about my progress (4.3 miles/6 for the week so far!), and I'm VERY excited about a job interview I have tomorrow! Things are going really well right now!

Day 6: Picking Up the Pace!

I'm proud of myself, friends! I haven't been able to run non-stop yet, but I'm getting there :D Today I ran a mile, took a small walking break, and ran some more! I got a solid 2 1/3 miles of running in! I'm really proud and happy, and I'm well on my way to meeting my goal this week!

I think tomorrow I'm going to take the puppy for a long walk--not a run, but still being active and building up my stamina a little bit. I'm happy and excited for this week--I know I'll be able to get all six miles done this week!

Cinco de Mayo! Day 5 Run

I almost forgot to post today! I did a run today, but just a short one--only a mile. I didn't have as much time in the morning as I normally do, so I was close to skipping my run because I wouldn't be able to get the 2 miles in. But then I thought to myself, I have 20 minutes, I can do a quick run and a quick shower. I'm so glad I did! I felt good about getting a little run in, and I got 5 out of six miles in for my first week. I'm proud of myself! I know I'll be able to do even better this next week :)

Day 4: Walk it Out

Due to an epic yard sale that happens twice a year, I did not get around to running today. I did, however, carry a table, a cement planter, and an armful of goodies across a crowded field. You have no idea how amazing this yard sale is--to give you an idea of the scope of the sale, there were at least a hundred refrigerators, fifty dishwashers, and at least five hundred cans of paint for sale. It's just the most incredible yard sale ever!

So I didn't get a run in today. However, I did take the puppy for a walk! We spent about a half hour walking around the neighborhood, so I feel good that I was at least a little active. Gearing up for a real workout again tomorrow--expect at least two miles, to finish my goal of six right before the new week starts!

Day 3: Slowing Down

Hey guys! Checking in here from Day 3 :) As you recall, yesterday I realized that I should NOT run two days in a row. Today I took that lesson to heart! Instead of tiring out my muscles repeating the same motions yet again, I took it easy. Except for some games of chase with the puppy, I didn't run at all! Instead I concentrated on some bodyweight exercises--a few sit ups, an even fewer amount of push-ups, squats, lunges, and calf raises. It was a pretty light workout, but it was just what I needed today! Tomorrow I'll run again.

Day 2: Why You Shouldn't Run Two Days in a Row

This is a story of pride and downfall. This is a story of dashed dreams. This is a story of stiffness.

So I decided, being the optimistic foolish girl that I am, that running two days in a row was a fantastic idea. Yeah, knock those miles out! You'll feel so good about yourself! Run Corinne run! I thought to myself. So I got in my workout clothes, jumped on the treadmill, and started running.

BAD IDEA. I thought that pushing myself was a good strategy--and don't get me wrong, your workouts should challenge you! But they shouldn't challenge your body the exact same way two days in a row, or by evening time you might be experiencing a LOT of stiffness :( On the plus side, I got up, I worked out, and now I only have two more miles to run to meet my weekly goal of 6 miles! On the minus side, I am really very sore.

So tomorrow my workout is going to be something different! Probably just sit ups, push ups, calf raises--body weight workouts that are challenging for me at my current fitness level, but not so strenuous that my body takes a beating. I'm pretty silly sometimes in my expectations, and I should learn to be more realistic.

Day 1: The Run

I don't know about you guys, but the hardest part of running for me isn't the running part--it's the getting off the couch part. I usually get in my workout clothes first thing in the morning...and then proceed to NOT work out. I find all kinds of tasks that absolutely need to get done immediately, and if it pushes my workout back, well, that's kind of how life goes, right? There's always tomorrow!

So I got in my workout clothes at 9 this morning. It's 3 pm now here, and I only just finished my run. Six hours after I planned on going. An inauspicious start to my Month of Being Awesome, but at least I ran! I got a two mile run done, so that means I only have four miles left to run this week to meet my goal!

Now, granted, I'm still running INSIDE. I think my runs are going to be a lot tougher when I start running in the 100 degree heat. But all in all, I'm proud of myself. I can do this, and I will do this!
